esmo AG is expanding its portfolio for the semiconductor test industry with the X-change cart, a semi-automated Device Interface Board (DIB) exchange system. Designed specifically for high-mix test environments, the system enables a single operator to complete a full load board changeover in under one minute.
In test environments with frequently changing product variants, manual board changeovers present a recurring challenge: they are time-consuming, physically demanding, and carry the risk of damage to high-value load boards. The X-change cart addresses these requirements through a structured, HMI-controlled process that reduces changeover times, minimizes manual effort, and eliminates handling errors.
The modular system transports two load boards simultaneously, enabling particularly rapid exchange. Full multi-axis rotation (±180° at the locking mechanism, ±180° Y-axis, ±90° Z-axis) and a tower that swivels ±90° allow deployment even in constrained test floor layouts and narrow corridors.
The ESD-safe gripper head protects the board at every point of contact. Spring-loaded guide pins ensure exact positioning, while secure automatic locking with mechanical interlock prevents accidental board release. A pretensioned alignment feature compensates for roll and pitch angle tolerances up to ±1.5°.
The X-change cart is compatible with leading ATE platforms including Teradyne, Advantest, and SPEA, and integrates into existing multi-vendor environments without reconfiguration. Interfaces to test head, prober, DIB-loader, storage rack, and maintenance workbench are provided as standard.
For companies with long-term automation objectives, an optional configuration allows the interface tower to be mounted on a customized AGV or AMR, enabling a gradual transition toward fully automated test floor operations.
