How huge can engineering get? Our 2026 apprentice excursion offered twelve apprentices from industrial mechanics, mechatronics, technical product design and IT specialist training a direct impression. They were accompanied by Training Manager Florian Zosseder and Georg Fischbacher, Team Leader Electrical Assembly and Training.
A different technical scale
In the morning, the group visited Everllence in Augsburg, formerly known as MAN Energy Solutions. During an approximately two-hour expert-guided tour, the apprentices explored the MAN Museum and the current production facilities.
The tour introduced them to the history of the Augsburg site. It covered the development of the diesel engine together with Rudolf Diesel, as well as marine engines and generators, and continued through to Everllence today.
The visit provided an opportunity to compare different technical scales: in Augsburg, the apprentices saw large machinery and production areas, while esmo’s work often focuses on precision in the micro- and sub-micrometre range. Together, these perspectives showed how diverse technical work can be and provided interesting points of connection for conversations within the group.
From Augsburg to Garching
After the tour, the group had lunch in Friedberg. In the afternoon, the focus shifted from industrial history to team competition: at laser tag in Garching near Munich, the different groups competed directly against each other. The comparisons included the two minibus teams as well as industrial mechanics and mechatronics.
The group returned to esmo in Rosenheim at around 5 p.m. In one day, the apprentice excursion took the group from the history of the diesel engine and large-scale industrial production to a shared sporting activity with colleagues from the other training areas.
