Once again this year, the traditional apprentice excursion of the esmo group took our trainees by train to Munich. They were accompanied by trainer Georg Fischbacher (Mechatronics / Electrical Engineering) and HR specialist Doris Beyer.
The day began with a special city tour that revealed what lies behind the otherwise well-known façades of the Bavarian capital. Tour guide Mrs. Köster showed the apprentices places and stories that even many Munich locals are unfamiliar with – including the city’s former red-light district, which inspired the famous Spider Murphy Gang song “Skandal im Sperrbezirk.” The group also learned fascinating details about historical crime cases, such as the Dr. Oetker kidnapping in the 1970s or a spectacular gold ducat robbery in the 19th century – all presented at their original locations right in the heart of the city. The combination of historical context and engaging anecdotes made the tour not only informative but also highly entertaining.
Afterwards, teamwork was the main focus: during a lively curling tournament at the Hopfengarten in Westpark, the apprentices competed against each other in several teams. The friendly competition created plenty of enthusiasm, sporting ambition, and good vibes – a perfect way to end the day. Over snacks and drinks, there was also ample time to exchange impressions and engage in conversation. For the new apprentices in particular, it was an important and memorable day. Many of our young colleagues agreed: the mix of culture, history (and stories), and sporting activity was the ideal combination for this special occasion.
The Apprentice Excursion 2025 thus provided not only fascinating insights into Munich’s history but also a valuable opportunity to strengthen team spirit and foster cohesion across all training years. It will surely remain a positive memory for everyone involved.
